Course Description

This ASHA approved CEU course is focused on Retrieval Strategy Instruction for learners with Word Finding Difficulties. First, stages of word finding and corresponding error patterns observed in learners with word finding difficulties are described. Next, a three-fold program model for word finding intervention is presented. Third a, detailed discussion of Program Area 1, Retrieval Strategy instruction is shared.  Lastly, a model for implementing a dual focus vocabulary lesson (teaching meanings and applying retrieval strategies to classroom vocabulary) along with IEP objectives for Retrieval Strategy Instruction is explained. Outcomes for this CEU course are listed below.

Learner Outcomes

Unit 1.  Participants will be able to describe the stages in word finding and corresponding word finding error patterns.

Unit 2. Participants will be able to plan and use a three-fold program model for word finding intervention.

Unit 3. Participants will be able to match specific retrieval strategies to word finding error patterns.

Unit 4. Participants will be able to apply retrieval strategies to academic vocabulary.

Unit 5. Participants will be able to write IEP objectives and benchmarks for word finding.

Word-Finding Materials, Inc. is approved by the Continuing Education Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to offer continuing education activities in speech-language pathology and audiology. This course is listed on the ASHA web site and is offered for .3 CEUs (Intermediate level; Professional area).
